How to Read a Manifest

Learn How to Read a Wholesale Pallet Manifest

A manifest can help you understand what may be included in a wholesale or liquidation lot before purchasing.

Atlas Wholesale Group provides manifest information when available, helping buyers review products, quantities, values, and other lot details.

What Is a Manifest?

A document or list describing the products included in a wholesale or liquidation lot.

Depending on the inventory, a manifest may contain information such as:

Product name
SKU
UPC
Quantity
Condition
Retail/MSRP value
Product category
Lot information
The amount of information varies by supplier and inventory source.
Manifest Types

Not every wholesale lot provides the same level of information.

Fully Manifested

A detailed product list is provided for the lot. This gives buyers more information before purchasing.

Partially Manifested

Some products or information are listed, but the manifest is not complete.

Unmanifested

The contents are not fully itemized. Unmanifested inventory generally requires a higher level of buyer tolerance for uncertainty.

How to Read the Main Columns

Understand what each common manifest field actually tells you.

Product Name

Identifies the item.

SKU

A product or inventory identifier.

UPC

A barcode/product identifier where available.

Quantity

Shows how many units of an item are included.

Condition

Shows the listed condition.

MSRP / Retail Value

The stated original or estimated retail value. This is not a guarantee of resale price.

Children's Toy25New$625
Estimated Units70
Stated Retail Value$2,475
The actual resale value depends on condition, market demand, selling costs, and other factors.
How to Evaluate a Manifest

Don't only look at the total MSRP.

01

Product Demand

Are people actually buying these products?

02

Condition

Are products new, returns, open box, used, or untested?

03

Quantity

Are there enough units to justify your purchase?

04

Resale Price

What can you realistically sell them for?

05

Selling Costs

Consider marketplace fees, advertising, packaging, labor, and returns.

06

Freight

Add shipping to your actual inventory cost.

Manifest vs. MSRP

One of the most common buyer mistakes.

MSRP can be useful for comparing the stated retail value of a lot, but your actual resale value depends on the market and product condition.

$10,000 MSRP = $10,000 resale value

That is not how wholesale liquidation economics work.

Your real outcome depends on demand, product condition, realistic resale price, fees, labor, returns, freight and other operating costs.

Manifest Does Not Always Guarantee Condition

A manifest is only as useful as the information it contains.

Buyers should check:

Condition descriptions
Testing status
Missing accessories
Damages
Quantity
Product images
Source information
Manifest date/version where applicable

Manifest & Risk

The information level changes how much uncertainty a buyer has to accept.

Lot TypeInformation LevelTypical Buyer Consideration
Fully ManifestedHighEasier to evaluate
Partially ManifestedMediumSome uncertainty
UnmanifestedLowGreater uncertainty
This does not automatically mean one lot is better than another. The right choice depends on the buyer's experience and business model.
